Artist Statement

Alisan C. Andrews, SWA, SAG

Andrews, Alisan -Dragon MoonAlisan has been painting since childhood showing promise early while painting with her artist grandmother, Alice Knight Tenny. She produced two-award winning murals in Santa Barbara while still in High School and received numerous community awards. She is also grandniece to Grant Wood, American Gothic painter.

Alisan majored in Fine Arts and worked mostly in oils. She was a popular artist in the seventies with bay area musicians and her career including an exhibit of those paintings, which was featured in “Night on the Town”, San Francisco Chronicle, over 30 of her oil paintings have been sold in the bay area.

In the late 90’s Alisan changed her focus to watercolor; studying at University Santa Cruz, Ferenc Besze, Stuart Givot, Karen Frey, Sonja Hamilton, Dale Laitinen and others, and is currently in the Masters Class with Jane Hoffstetter at the Trident Museum. She has taken numerous workshops and classes in developing her craft.

Andrews, Alisan -Old SoulsAlisan is a signature member of The Society of Western Artists and the Sequoia Art Group. She is a member of Santa Clara Watercolor Society, and the California Watercolor Association.

Her watercolors currently hang in the Society of Western Artists Gallery, Caldwell Memorial Art Gallery, and the Gallery Annex. She has awards from the Society of Western Artists, the Sequoia Art Group, San Mateo County Fair, Santa Clara Watercolor Society and others. Most of Alisan’s work is for sale. She has recently sold two major pieces to private collectors.
