Biography:
Jamie Watson has been passionate about printmaking for 18 years.  Jamie’s monotypes are inspired by color, intuition, emotion, environment and often times her love of surfing. Through her process vibrant color, abstract form, and found images emerge on the paper.

Born in San Jose, California, Jamie spent jamie2her youth living in many different states before settling in her chosen favorite. Jamie studied printmaking with Erin Goodwin-Guerrero and Patrick Surgalski at San Jose State University. She is fortunate to have also studied under Tracey Adams and
Kalani Engles.

What is a monotype?

In the printing process, Jamie uses oil to paint an image on plexiglass, places paper on top of the glass and rolls it through the press. The intense pressure applies the image to the paper in reverse, leaving an image oftenjamie3 different than what the artist intended. Having the image turn out with
unexpected results is the very reason monotypes are her chosen medium.
Only one image can be created this way, making each one truly unique and original. Monotype artists can run the glass through the press a second time to create a faint “ghost” image. Additional ink can be added to the glass for several more run-throughs to create rich layering.
