Artist Statement:P1010066(1)
“I became a knitter after moving to the coast and experiencing two summers of heavy fog. I needed some “indoor sports” to occupy my time, so after a few years of knitting, a loom magically arrived at my house and I taught myself to weave. I now look forward to the fog!

I weave blankets, shawls, scarves, and most recently, “cocoons,” which look like shawlsP1010016(1) with sleeves, and woven, felted clutch purses. My other passion is beaded chenille scarves, combining beading with weaving.

I also design, knit, and crochet jewelry using all types of beads: gemstones, crystals, fresh water pearls, and glass. I strive to create jewelry that doesn’t look like anyone else’s, and my work is rarely symmetrical.”

Biography:
Patt Sheldon is a local girl—born in San Francisco, raised on the Peninsula. She taught most grades in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District for 35 years, and never considered herself artistic, though her flare for color showed in her wardrobe.P1000961(1)

Patt has taken a few classes in weaving and many classes in knitting techniques, but is mostly self-taught in her jewelry designs.

Her work has sold in several stores locally, and she does about six or seven shows a year, mostly on the coast.

Realizing how isolated an artist can be, particularly after retiring from teaching and working at home, Patt started a group called Colony of Coastside Artists last year. The group meets monthly in each others’ homes, and now has 61 members. They held their first Open Studios in November, 2010. The group is open to anyone living on the coast who is interested in art.
