Biography

Growing up in Hong Kong, I was already Lilies_2009_S_Limpassionate about watercolor painting in my early teenage years. To me, it was a wonderful medium – full of challenges and surprises.

I was a student of the late watercolor master Mr. Maytin Kan, and his sister Ms. Szemei Kan from 1980 to 1984. In the 90s when I was living in Toronto, I was also a student of a renowned Canadian artist Mr. Stephen Yau. My watercolor paintings were often chosen to exhibit in my teachers’ exhibitions.

My interest in drawing and painting had also motivated me to become a designer. I received a Diploma in Graphic Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic (Swire School of Design) in 1984. I came to the U.S. for further
study, and received a Bachelor of Art Degree
in Graphic Design from California College of the Arts. For over 15 years, I had worked as a graphic designer for design companies in New York, Toronto and San Francisco.

In 1997, my watercolor paintings were Logs_2010_S_Limawarded at the Annual Juried Exhibition by the Latchem Gallery in Stouffville, Ontario. Also, in both 1997 and 1999, my watercolor paintings were awarded at the Juried Exhibition at the Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant in Brantfort, Ontario. Both competitions were opened to all Canadian artists.

During my college years, I was already a part-time drawing and painting instructor. While I was working as a graphic designer, I enjoyed very much using my free time teaching watercolor to neighbors and friends. And since the beginning of 2009, I have been a watercolor painitng instructor at Lascaux Academy. In addition, I am also an active volunteer in my daughter’s school, working closely with teachers and children.
