Artist Statement

“I most enjoy working from my imagination, responding to life situations and to relationships that have a strong impact on me.  I am inspired by nature and by human nature.

My mediums of choice are oil pastel, tempera, acrylic, oil paints, and collage.  I particularly enjoy the “juiciness” of oil pastels with their Sad-Girlability to be used in layers and scratched through.  Using water mixable oil paints has enabled me to enjoy the richness of the oil medium without the toxicity.

When I begin a new project I need to give myself time to play and explore, making mistakes and trying new things.  Through the process of play, an image may develop which holds my interest.  A dialogue begins between me and the image, hopefully an alive and spontaneous one, as I work to bring it more fully into being.

The expressiveness of the human face has always excited my inner artist.  My work often explores human relationships and emotionally charged experiences through the use of line, color, form, and dynamic movement.”
